The South Carolina Legislative Action Committees (SCLAC) exists to represent the interests of, and to provide regular communications to CAI members located within South Carolina about state legislative, regulatory, and case law relevant to community associations. SCLAC delegates are nominated by the chapter and by the SCLAC itself, and volunteer their time and energy to benefit all CAI members. The SCLAC is not a PAC (political action committee) and makes no financial contributions to political candidates or compaigns. The LAC depends solely on donations by the community associations and businesses it represents.
Each legislative session presents new opportunities and challenges for our industry. Working through these issues can be difficult and volatile and takes a tremendous amount of dedication and willingness to work behind the scenes as well as in public forums. The South Carolina Legislative Action Committee will, from time to time, ask for the assistance of our membership and the community at large to either support or oppose specific legislation concerning the protection of homeowners.
Anyone interested in supporting positive, sensible and consistant legislation regarding homeowner and community associations is encouraged to get involved. There are numerous ways to do so, whether it is being responsive to Legislative Alerts, sharing information with all interested parties in your contact list, or serving on the LAC. Consider what you can contribute whether it is your time, money or ideas and contact your local CAI office to make your interest known.
